Avani Dias is leaving Triple J Hack as she accepts a new job as the ABC’s South Asia correspondent

Avani Dias is stepping down as host of Triple J Hack and leaving the youth radio station after five years.

The 30-year-old journalist resigned after accepting a new job as the ABC’s South Asia Correspondent based in New Delhi, India, reports Radio Today.

Ms Dias said the decision to leave Triple J and accept an overseas posting was a difficult one because Hack had been such an integral part of her life.

‘Hack has been with me through so much of my life. From listening as a teenager in my bedroom, to the last five years as my dream job – I’m so proud of everything our show does,’ she said.

The Young Australian Journalist of the Year nominee thanked her Triple J colleagues for their support, as well as Hack’s loyal listeners.

She said: ‘Thank you to every young person who has spoken to me, often in their darkest moments let down by broken systems. I will always be grateful for your trust.’

‘To my brilliant colleagues, family, and friends, I’d be nowhere without you and your support of me every single day,’ she added.

Ms Dias took over as presenter of Hack after former host Tom Tilley announced his resignation towards the end of 2019.

Tilley left to take up a position as a contributor and part-time host of Channel 10’s flagship current affairs program The Project.
