SINGER and rapper Sidhu Moose Wala was a well-known musician in his home country of India and was also becoming a name worldwide.
On May 29, 2022, Canadian rapper Drake posted a story on Instagram sending his condolences to Indian musician Sidhu Moose Wala.
Who was Sidhu Moose Wala?
Sidhu Moose Wala was only 28 years old when his car was ambushed.
Wala was also a breakout rap artist whose songs gained him more than 4billion YouTube views.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Wala joined the Indian National Congress in December 2021.
In the 2022 election, he was defeated by Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Dr Vijay Singla in the Mansa assembly seat vote.
On April 11, 2022, Wala dropped a new song titled Scapegoat, which discusses his failure in the state assembly elections.
Until the day before his death, Wala had a government-sanctioned protection detail with him, but it was revoked just before the attack.
How have local officials reacted to the attack on Sidhu Moose Wala?
The Indian National Congress responded with a tweet that read: “The murder of Shri Sidhu Moose Wala, Congress candidate from Punjab & a talented musician, has come as a terrible shock to the Congress party & the entire nation.”
Additionally, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann tweeted: “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder of Siddhu Moose Wala. Nobody involved will be spared.
“My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his fans across the world.
“I appeal to everyone to stay calm.”
How have fans reacted to Sidhu Moose Wala’s death?
Fans are in mourning over the loss of Wala, and have been paying tribute to the young rapper online.
J-Skillz tweeted: “A wordsmith that graced the Punjabi music scene & changed the game.
“A son, a brother a friend, just a damn good human being RIP Sidhu Moose Wala.”
One Twitter fan said: “Whether you liked his music or not, Sidhu Moose Wala helped push Punjabi language across the world, across cultures.
“Bollywoods Billion dollar entertainment machine was beat by a local Punjabi villager.”
And another echoed the feeling the community was left feeling, tweeting: “Still cannot digest how talented he was at just 28.
“Just cannot fathom what has happened, everytime I look at his pictures after being shot, I still fail to believe what has just happened.
“He would’ve been the biggest thing in Punjabi music. #sidhumoosewala”
