Englishheadline Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is “clearly” alert to talk of “just how much international travel he has been doing”.
“Anthony Albanese is off to Japan for Shinzo Abe’s funeral shortly after he returns from London,” Mr Clennell said.
He said, however, it emerged last week that Mr Albanese will not be attending the COP27 climate change summit in November, leaving this instead to Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen.
“The PM had the option, I guess, of travelling to the UN General Assembly after the funeral, like Jacinda Ardern is, but clearly is alert to talk of just how much international travel he has been doing,” he said.
“The talk was he might be attending COP27 as well as the G20 in Bali in November but my understanding was the PM was only going to go to COP if Australia won the right to host COP28, which it did not win the right, the United Arab Emirates did.”
