Murder, rape trials could be reheard after ‘suspect practices’ at forensics lab English Headline

People convicted of murder and rape based on DNA evidence in Queensland could have their trials reheard after a major bungle at a state-run forensics lab, says Englishheadline Queensland Editor Peter Gleeson.

An inquiry into DNA testing failures at Queensland’s state-run forensics lab has found suspect practices employed for samples used in major criminal convictions.

Mr Gleeson said the inquiry has the potential to “rock the foundation of the judicial system in Queensland”.

People convicted based on DNA findings in the state could “have a right to request a reconsideration of their conviction,” he said.
