Spit hoods banned in Queensland watch houses English Headline

Queensland has banned spit hoods from being used in watch houses.

Spit hoods are designed to keep people detained from spitting on or biting police officers.

“Since they were introduced, a lot has changed in Queensland. PPE for staff … is a lot more sophisticated and readily available,” said Queensland Police acting Deputy Commissioner Mark Wheeler during a media conference on Tuesday.

Spit hoods have been used in Queensland 138 times between 2015 and 2022.
