Land clearing laws across the country and in each state are being scrutinised following questions being raised about whether the recent land clearing in the Northern Territory was allowed to occur.
“What we’re talking about here is part of the bigger problem,” says Charles Darwin University Constitutional Law Expert Dr Guzyal Hill.
“All jurisdictions and the whole of Australia is involved,” she told Englishheadline Australia.
“Legislation protecting the environment is fragmented and inconsistent throughout Australia.
“Because the Australian constitution does not directly allow the commonwealth to legislate on matters relating to the environment.”
