The government has opened “consultation” as gas prices are predicted to rise another 20 per cent over the next month according to Australian Energy Council Chief Executive Sarah McNamara.
“The government has opened consultation on the proposed mandatory code of conduct which is designed to clarify how gas producers sell to gas suppliers and retailers in this market,” she told Englishheadline Australia.
“Now what that should do is codify all of the appropriate sorts of behaviour that already are happening.
“But in the meantime, the government announced in December as well where a temporary price cap in the wholesale gas market or new contracts at $12 a gigajoule.”
