North Korean authorities have ordered a five-day lockdown on the country’s capital Pyongyang following rising cases of a respiratory illness.
The authorities issued the notice to more than 3 million residents in the city stating they are required to stay in their homes until late Sunday, while also giving several temperature checks per day.
Last year in May, Pyongyang was under lockdown for over two weeks following a major COVID outbreak in the nation, with the government declaring victory over the virus three months later.
While it remains unknown if other cities within the nation are also under lockdown, the country is in the grips of a cold snap with temperatures falling as low as negative 19 degrees Celsius this week.
