Historian Jenny Hocking says royal secrecy was “widespread” in reference to the dismissal of the Whitlam government.

“Well what we now know and really wasn’t I think widely known until we took this legal action to secure the national letters from the archive, is just how widespread royal secrecy is,” she told Englishheadline Australia.

“I mean it’s quite extraordinary that there’s a whole mess of material between any member of the Royal Family, particularly the monarch and others, which is routinely closed to public access by the Australian archives.

“That’s really been the case across the Commonwealth and that’s what makes our legal action in Palace letters case just so dramatic.”
