The AUKUS nuclear submarines deal was a very “modest” and “conservative” proposal, says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
“What we’re doing is making sure that we receive first of all the three – up to five Virginia Class subs so that we fill that capability gap which is there,” Mr Albanese said during a press conference on Thursday.
“But we’ve been very modest about our proposal, very conservative.
“If we can do things quicker, then we will do so but it is quite clear that we will need the Collins class submarines to go through refurbishment.”
