Microbiologist Professor Peter Timms says Chlamydia is a “problem around most Koala populations” after a new vaccine has been developed to treat Koalas.
“We’ve been working on this vaccine for a while now and it’s been a research vaccine up until this stage, that’s why it’s pretty important now to take this from a research stage into a production stage,” Professor Timms told Englishheadline Australia.
“It’s a problem around most of the Koala populations … it is affecting around 80 to 90 per cent of the population,” he said.
“Only 24 per cent of the ones that come in can be treated and released – so three-quarters of them don’t make it out.”
