Westpac’s Chief Economist Bill Evans believes the Reserve Bank will keep interest rates on hold next month at 3.6 per cent, before raising them the month after.

This is due to soft consumer confidence data and the global uncertainty around the banking sector.

Westpac expects the RBA will raise rates in May to 3.85 per cent but from May onwards, rates will be paused, as the economy begins to slow down, and inflation hopefully starts to weaken.
