Two men in their 30s have been arrested and charged over the incident in Sydney’s south west, where a violent protest erupted outside an event where One Nation’s Mark Latham was due to speak.
NSW police have spoken out on Wednesday morning, saying the riot squad had to be called in to disperse the crowd and that it was “disappointing” to see a protest that was supposed to be peaceful turn violent.
“This was nothing but a violent confrontation – these people were there to protest … for their own beliefs,” NSW Police Superintendent Sheridan Waldau said.
“This was meant to be a very peaceful protest and unfortunately has turned into a very violent event.”
