A man reported missing off the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia on Saturday morning is believed to have been killed in a shark attack.
The 46-year-old was surfing in waters off Walkers Rocks Beach north of Elliston when he was reportedly attacked by a shark.
Emergency crews were called to the reef break popular with surfers in the Lake Newland Conservation Park about 10:10am.
Half a dozen boats and jet skis are searching for the missing man off the waters off Elliston.
“About 10.10am… emergency services were called to Walkers Rocks Beach, about 7kms north of Elliston, following reports that a man had been attacked by a shark,” South Australia Police said in a statement.
“The 46-year-old Elliston man was surfing when he was attacked and he is now missing.
“Police, SES and local members of the community are engaged in a search to locate him. No other persons were injured.”
