A man has died in hospital following a tragic fall from a unit in the northern Sydney suburb of Wollstonecraft.

Authorities were first called to the Shirley St residence at 11pm Friday after reports were made of a domestic incident between a man and a woman.

Officers attended the unit and spoke to the pair, both 41-years-old.

As part of the inquiries, the man was arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station but was released shortly after, pending further investigation.

Police were then called back to the same property early Saturday morning about 6am over reports of a male intruder attempting to break into the house.

Upon arriving, officers found a man with life-threatening injuries lying on the driveway directly below the unit.

Emergency crews provided medical treatment to the injured man, who was later taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.

The man, 41, died in hospital about 11pm Saturday night.

A critical incident investigation has been launched by officers from Ku-ring-gai Police Area Command who will probe circumstances surrounding the suspicious fall.

No further details are available at this stage.

The coroner will determine the man’s cause of death and make any findings about the events in the lead-up to the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
