Englishheadline Political Editor Andrew Clennell says wages are up and holding strong at the moment amid rising strike action in Sydney, with news of “looming paramedic and patient transports strikes”.

According to the ABS, the annual wage increase for Australians is 3.7 per cent – “that’s the biggest rise since 2012 but that still comes nowhere near countering the effect of inflation,” Mr Clennell said.

“Anthony Albanese, when questioned on the stage 3 tax cuts due to come into effect next July and asked if he is doing enough for lower-income earners, continues to talk up his government pushing wages along.

“Even though there is a risk further wage increases could just make inflation even worse.”
