According to China’s Ambassador to Australia Xiao Qian, the security pact between China and the Solomon Islands is for “social stability” and not defence.

“Police forces not to defence forces, because Solomon Island doesn’t have a defence force,” Mr Xiao said during a media conference.

“The relationship between China and Pacific Island countries is conducive to peace and stability and prosperity in the region.”
