Rise in children on NDIS scheme sparks overdiagnosis concerns | Englishheadline

An increase in the number of young children on the NDIS is sparking concerns of potential rorting of the disability insurance system.

Quarterly NDIS data shows 11 per cent of boys aged 5 to 7 and 5 per cent of girls are participants in the scheme – a jump of almost one per cent in three months.

Amaze Chief Executive Jim Mullan has pointed out there could be overdiagnosis of autism in children so families can receive adequate support – as he says there is “no other reasonable expectation for seeing the rates we’re seeing”.
