Thousands of families and victims of domestic violence could benefit from a proposal to expand a housing program in New South Wales.

Under the suggested extended Shared Equity program, those eligible would only need to contribute a two-per cent deposit to buy a home.

The state government is set to establish a new task force to explore ways to improve housing outcomes for victims of domestic violence.
