Two bodies have been found, both with gunshot wounds, inside a property at a coastal town in New South Wales.

The body of a 58-year-old man and 15-year-old boy were discovered at an address on Kookaburra Circuit at Yamba on Thursday afternoon.

About 1.10pm, police were called to the scene after receiving reports that two bodies had been found inside a property.

NSW Police confirmed on Thursday night that a crime scene had been established and an investigation was underway.

“The bodies of a 58-year-old man and 15-year-old boy were located inside the property, both suffering gunshot wounds,” a police statement read.

“A crime scene was established which will be forensically examined.”

Police said initial inquiries indicate that the 58-year-old man was a “licenced firearms holder”, with detectives requesting his licensing history from the NSW Firearms Registry.

While the investigation is still in its early stages, police do not believe a third party was involved.

The investigation is being led by officers from the Coffs Clarence Police District.

Yamba is a coastal town located in the Northern Rivers Region of NSW, about a seven-hour drive north of Sydney.

Anyone with information in relation to the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
