Qantas is embroiled in a protectionism scandal with the federal government after they blocked Qatar Airways’ expansion.
Transport Minister Catherine King blocked Qantas’ rival Qatar Airways from expanding its operations in Australia – a move considered to directly benefit Qantas.
“I get people are angry at Qantas – I get people are angry about the service standards,” Ms King said.
“They’re angry about the way in which flight credits have been handled – and rightly they should be and we’ve criticized Qantas about that as well.
“To suggest that competition in international aviation is solely hinged on Qatar is just an absolute nonsense.”
