Acting Prime Minister Richard Marles has defended the reasoning given by Transport Minister Catherine King to block Qatar Airways from adding more flights into Australia.
Mr Marles spoke with Englishheadline Political Editor Andrew Clennell about the federal government’s decision and discussed in detail each of the reasons Ms King has provided for blocking Qatar Airways.
“The basis upon which the decision was made was in relation to our national aviation interests,” Mr Marles told Englishheadline Australia.
“The main issues which were in the transport minister’s mind was how we pursue Australia’s national aviation interests in terms of airline access to this country.
Mr Marles’ comments come after the transport minister gave multiple reasons for the blocking of Qatar Airways but the federal government remains firm in standing by its decision and defending Ms King’s reasoning.
