It was a scorching Saturday for the UK residents as the Met office provisionally declared it the hottest day of the year.
The number of residents seeking advice about heat exhaustion has increased five-fold in the past week.
The UK has never seen such a long spell of September days when temperatures reach above 30 degrees Celsius.
“The fact that human influences on climate change are bringing more hot spells to the UK and they’re becoming more frequent and more severe as we go into the future”, says Met Office Senior Operational Meteorologist Rachel Ayers.
“But it is also partly due to the current set-up that we’ve got due to the Tropical Atlantic weather, so hurricanes there have helped to bring us the current weather pattern across the UK.”
