Greens Leader Adam Bandt says Australians are under “significant mortgage pressure”.
This comes as high inflation has caused the Reserve Bank of Australia to increase interest rates.
“House prices so high that are really pushing people to the wall,” Mr Bandt told Englishheadline Australia.
“Come the end of this year, there’s going to be a need for new projects to come online.
“State governments have got a lot of their own projects and they own a lot of land, where they can effectively control the public housing that they build there.”
