The Greens are vowing to make tenants’ rights the main sticking point for supporting future government legislation on housing.

The party believes it could stare down the threat of an early election by pitching itself as the party for renters.

These comments come after a late-night Senate session decided the Housing Australia Future Fund would pass through parliament before Question Time on Wednesday.

According to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, this legislation is the “single biggest investment in housing in more than a decade”.

In exchange for passing this bill, the Greens backed down on their demands for a national rent freeze.
