Rabobank senior strategist for Global Economics and Markets Ben Picton says many East Coast farmers are “very nervous” about the upcoming weather patterns.

They are apprehensive about a potential “El Nino system coming at us” leading to “dry crop growing conditions” during harvest, according to Mr Picton.

Meanwhile, on the West Coast, the concerns are more political.

Farmers are particularly worried about “government intervention” and the potential end to the “sheep live export trade”.

Both coasts are grappling with their unique set of challenges as the year progresses.
