Housing Minister Julie Collins says the money from the Housing Australia Future Fund will be “life-changing” for many Australians.
A deal on the housing bill following months of a stalemate had finally been struck, with the Greens securing an additional $1 billion on top of the pre-existing $2 billion to be spent on public and community housing this year.
“It will create … an ongoing pipeline of funding to help build social and affordable homes right across the country,” Ms Collins said during Question Time on Wednesday.
“Not just for this government, not just in five years, but they’re in perpetuity.
“So that we can have a steady flow and pipeline of social and affordable homes into the future.”
