A suspect, who was previously imprisoned in 2020 for plotting an Islamic terror attack, has been arrested in connection with a brutal stabbing incident in Paris. This tragic event resulted in the death of a German individual and left two others injured near the Eiffel Tower.

The suspect, a French citizen in his mid-20s, expressed his distress over the deaths of many Muslims in Afghanistan and Palestine, and accused France of being complicit, as reported by The Associated Press and Politico. This information was shared by French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin during a press briefing on Saturday.

According to Minister Darmanin, the suspect allegedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) during the attack.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences to the family and loved ones of the German national who tragically lost their life in the terrorist attack in Paris. In a post on Saturday, he also acknowledged the injured victims currently receiving care. Macron expressed his gratitude to the emergency forces for their swift action in arresting a suspect. He assured that the national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office, now in charge of the case, will ensure justice is served in the name of the French people.

 

French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne affirmed France’s resilience in the face of terrorism, stating, “We will not give in to terrorism. Never.”

The suspect, who was previously incarcerated for four years for plotting an attack in 2016, was born in Neuilly-Sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris. He was released from prison in 2020 and was under surveillance while undergoing psychiatric treatment. He was most recently residing with his parents in the Essonne region, south of Paris. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin stated, “This person was ready to kill others.”

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock referred to the incident as a “suspected Islamist attack.”
