Kelly Stafford’s Instagramfollowing the Rams’ third straight loss Sunday, with trolls taking aim at her husband, quarterback Matthew Stafford. The mother of four believes there’s a reason online critics come for her accounts.
“I think this is why people do it cause they can’t get to Matthew, cause he doesn’t have social media. So they come to me and they make it even worse because they’re so frustrated that they can’t get to him. I love it. Not that I love the comments, but I love they can’t get to him,” Kelly said on the latest episode of her podcast, “
“I mean, I could only imagine being a professional athlete and reading s–t that people write.”
Stafford, who was traded to the Rams in January following 12 seasons with the Lions, had three touchdowns in Sunday’s 36-28 loss against the Packers. The 33-year-old quarterback also logged an interception, the third game in a row in which he’s thrown a pick-six.
After the game, commenters chastised Stafford’s performance on Kelly’s Instagram.
“Tell Staff to get his act together please,” one critic griped while another seethed, “US rams fans are not gonna act the same as lions fans. Stafford came here to help us win snd [sic] he’s been abysmal.”
In response to the commentary, Kelly received support from a fellow NFL WAG, Emily Mayfield,.
“Girlfriend, my DMs look scary similar. Just insert some death threats. Keep your head up. You know what your man is capable of. 🤍🤍🤍 sending love!” Emily commented Sunday.
The Rams (7-4),to their receiving corps, are looking to bounce back Sunday against the Jaguars (2-9). And while Stafford’s play and physical condition have been at the forefront in recent days, Kelly said Tuesday the quarterback was “pissed” .
“He’s fine, everybody has injuries going on, he didn’t want that to be an excuse,” Kelly said, noting Stafford didn’t want the narrative to be that he isn’t playing well due to injury.
“And like I’ve always said, we own up to our s—t. He owns up to not playing well, he doesn’t make excuses for it, there actually could be if he was miserable and the injury is taking over, but he’s not,” she continued.
After the game, Staffordthat he was “feeling fine.”
“Back was kind of barking at me a little bit that week, but I haven’t missed any time since then,” Stafford said. “The rest of my body, is it 100 percent? No, nor is anybody else’s in this league at this point of the season.”
