Batwoman’s Nicole Kang has been seen in costume as Poison Ivy for the first time.

A new photo of the 30-year-old actress, who portrays Mary Hamilton on the hit CW superhero program, was released on Friday, and showed her fully transformed into the fan-favorite DC Comics villain.

The performer will be featured in the show’s upcoming midseason finale, when her transformation into the iconic character will be seen onscreen.

Batwoman’s executive producer, Caroline Dries, spoke to Deadline and told the media outlet that the actress was very hands-on during the costuming process.

‘It was so exciting to work alongside Nicole as we picked hair color, eye color and, of course, the clothing itself,’ she said.

Dries went on to express that the actress impressed the show’s cast and crew when she assumed the character’s mantle for the first time.

She recalled that ‘it wasn’t until Nicole showed up on set and absolutely killed her performance that the character of Poison Ivy Mary was complete.’

Makeup department head Cory Roberts spoke about transforming Kang into Poison Ivy through the use of cosmetics.

‘I envisioned her character being intrinsically powerful, alluring and seductive; it was the combination of beautiful glowy skin, with colors selected to enhance and celebrate Nicole’s complexion and structure,’ he said.

Hair department head Ashley Young also pointed out that she and the actress worked very closely while coming up with the character’s look.

‘Nicole and I tried multiple wigs in different shades of red till we found the perfect one so that we didn’t lose “Mary” in all the glamour but could reflect her and bring out her Poison Ivy alter ego,’ she recalled.

Kang herself released a statement about her character and expressed via Comicbook.com that she was happy to be featured as the DC Comics figure.

‘I am most proud that Poison Ivy is an Asian villain whose danger does not stem from her foreignness or her mystique. Instead, we discover her personal motivations alongside those of the OG Poison Ivy’s and see them intertwine,’ she stated.

She added: ‘I am so humbled to be a Korean girl in line behind THE Uma Thurman to play the next live action Poison Ivy (what?!). Hopefully the future holds space for others like me and beyond to portray one hell of a character.’

Poison Ivy was also portrayed on the program by Bridget Regan, who joined the show in a recurring part prior to the premiere of its third season.

The character notably infected Hamilton with one of her vines during the most recent episode of Batwoman, which aired earlier this week.

The forthcoming midseason finale will see Kang’s character make her debut as a new version of Poison Ivy.

The episode is currently set to air on The CW on November 24th.
