The new season of SAS Australia will air in 2022, with 17 celebrities taking on gruelling challenges at a brand-new base in unforgiving jungle terrain.

And Channel Seven released a first-look trailer for the series on Monday, showing the latest recruits looking very different to their day-to-day lives.

Usually suited and booted as a sports commentator, AFL legend Wayne Carey, 50, was hardly recognisable as he scarpered through the wilderness in army-print trousers and a grey T-shirt.

Celebrities in the wilderness: On Monday, Channel Seven released a new trailer for SAS Australia – which featured AFL commentator Wayne Carey looking unrecognisable in the wild

He appeared relatively calm as he sat on the side of a boat, before a blood-curdling scream was let out as he jumped towards a moving helicopter.

Carey has rarely strayed far from the headlines, which will no doubt provide ample content for his interrogations with the DS (directing staff) on the show.

His past indiscretions include an affair with the wife of his North Melbourne teammate Anthony Stevens, which exploded in 2002 and forced him to change football clubs, along with a list of drug and alcohol-related scandals.

The mum-of-one, who married Tim Robards after meeting him on The Bachelor, still managed to look glamorous as she grappled behind a tree completely makeup free.

Her hair was unkept and left in a natural wave, while her face was slightly spattered with mud in the action-packed clip.

Elsewhere in the trailer, AFL star Barry Hall was seen using his brute strength to win a giant game of tug of war off the side of a cliff, while recruits including Wayne and rugby superstar Ellia Green were set on fire during a shocking challenge.

‘What doesn’t kill you, makes you,’ Chief Instructor Ant Middleton was heard commentating in the background. ‘Let’s get into this.’

The British adventurer was then seen swinging from the side of a helicopter after jumping from the side of a boat.

He also introduced two new elite commanders; Clint Emerson and Dean Stott.
